The ablazement of Ravana's kingdom 'Lanka' by Hanuman

Lanka Dahan

Once upon a time, in ancient India, there existed a magnificent kingdom called Lanka, ruled by the mighty demon king Ravana. Lanka was a city of unparalleled beauty, adorned with towering palaces, lush gardens, and sparkling lakes. However, beneath its enchanting facade, the kingdom was steeped in darkness and tyranny under Ravana's rule.

In the same era, Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was on a quest to rescue his beloved wife, Sita, who had been abducted by Ravana. Along with his devoted brother Lakshmana and a loyal army of Vanaras (monkey warriors), Lord Rama embarked on an arduous journey towards Lanka.

During their journey, they faced numerous challenges and encountered various divine beings who helped them on their way. One such divine ally was Hanuman, a mighty Vanara prince and the son of Vayu, the wind god. Hanuman was known for his immense strength, intelligence, and unwavering devotion to Lord Rama.

When Lord Rama's army reached the shores of Lanka, they were faced with the daunting task of crossing the vast ocean to reach the island kingdom. This is when Hanuman's true valor and unique abilities came to the forefront. He decided to take a giant leap across the ocean to Lanka, defying all physical limitations.

With a prayer to Lord Rama and his heart filled with devotion, Hanuman leaped into the air. His colossal form soared high above the clouds, and with each bound, he covered hundreds of miles. As he flew over the ocean, Hanuman encountered various obstacles and adversaries sent by Ravana to halt his progress. However, Hanuman's determination and divine strength allowed him to overcome all hurdles effortlessly.

Upon reaching Lanka, Hanuman's first task was to locate Sita. Disguising himself as a simple monkey, he stealthily made his way into the city. After days of searching, Hanuman finally found Sita imprisoned in a beautiful garden called the Ashoka Vatika. Sita was heartbroken, and her spirit had not been broken despite her difficult circumstances.

Hanuman revealed his true identity to Sita and reassured her that he was a messenger of Lord Rama, who had come to rescue her. Sita was overjoyed to hear that her beloved husband was alive and well, and she sent her love and a message of hope back with Hanuman to Lord Rama.

However, Hanuman's true mission was not just to find Sita but to teach Ravana a lesson and humble the arrogant demon king. To achieve this, Hanuman decided to create chaos in Lanka to draw Ravana's attention away from Sita.

With his tail ablaze and fuelled by his fury, Hanuman ran through the streets of Lanka, setting fire to the palaces, temples, and gardens of the wicked kingdom. The sight of the mighty monkey warrior wreaking havoc spread panic and fear among Ravana's demon army.

Despite their best efforts, Ravana's soldiers were no match for Hanuman's valor and divine power. The entire city was engulfed in flames, and the skies were filled with dark smoke. Ravana, witnessing the devastation caused by Hanuman, finally realized the gravity of his actions and the consequences of abducting Sita.

At last, Hanuman accomplished his mission and made a daring escape from the burning city, carrying with him the memory of Sita and the message of Lord Rama. He returned to Lord Rama and shared the news of Sita's whereabouts, as well as the state of Lanka.

Lord Rama, filled with gratitude and admiration for Hanuman's bravery, decided to build a bridge across the ocean to reach Lanka with his army. The great battle of Lanka ensued, culminating in the defeat of Ravana and the rescue of Sita.

Thus, the story of Lanka Dahan, the ablazement of Ravana's kingdom by Hanuman, became a legendary tale of courage, devotion, and the triumph of good over evil, celebrated for generations to come.
